Club Information

Established in Exmouth since 1912. Friendly in style however priding itself on being professional towards all things sailing, the club has dinghies, cruisers, club racing, casual sailing, RYA accredited training and more.

the mouth of the beautiful Exe estuary. the club offers secure dinghy and tender berthing and sheltered beach launching. The adjacent East Devon Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site, creating relaxed scenic sailing on both the estuary and out at sea.

The club hosts dinghy open meetings and national championships. In 2018, hosting the International 14 class and the prestigious Prince of Wales Cup.

The club is family orientated encouraging sailing from an early age. Junior sailors are supported to develop to achieve their sailing potential. Ben Rhodes, Stevie Morrison, and Joe Glanfield all started their sailing careers at the club and went on to become Olympic sailors.

The purpose-built clubhouse offers a restaurant, bar area with an outside balcony. Members enjoy access to a members’ kitchen and there are changing facilities available also.  The club offers free parking and boat storage with a capacity of 150 dinghies/ tenders. Launching is available from slipways or Beach.

The club is an RYA Accredited Training Centre, offering courses covering the whole RYA scheme both for dinghy and cruising and powerboats. Courses range from all levels and ages, with junior courses for dinghy sailing.

By way of development, the club hosts junior nights to help build confidence on the water. Our club-owned fleet of Lasers, RS Fevas and Visions support our training programme and are available for members to hire.

The club organises weekly racing sessions to maintain social and friendly competitiveness amongst members. Racing is also arranged twice a week throughout the Spring and Summer months and at weekends through the Autumn. The club’s fleet includes: Comet Trios, RS 400, RS 200, Supernovas and Lasers.

Exe Sailing also holds dinghy cruising events regularly. The club has a highly successful track record for hosting dinghy national championships and open meetings.

Cruiser racing occurs mid-week in Spring and Summer months and at weekends through the Autumn. The club has a fleet of cruisers available. In addition to racing, there is the opportunity to attend the regular cruising events.  Members regularly cruise along the coast, to France and sometimes further afield. New cruisers are always welcome and crew even more so! The club organises an annual River Exe Champagne Challenge passage race to Brixham in September.
