Hythe & Saltwood Sailing Club

Hythe & Saltwood Sailing Club

Club Information

The Hythe & Saltwood SC began in 1961 as Saltwood Sailing Society.

The sailing section caters for all types of dinghy sailing from competitive racing to trips along the coast for a pint and a pasty. All levels of experience are welcomed with rescue facilities available to boost the confidence of the beginner and open meetings to challenge the more experienced racer.  Training is also available.

There is a small dinghy park at the club with limited space available. If you are interested in keeping your dinghy at the club, please contact the Membership Secretary

The roots of windsurfing at the club run deep, with members including former Olympic champions and national champions. Windsurfing at HSSC caters for both longboard racing, and shortboarding whenever it’s windy enough.

We offer a wide range of advantages to the keen windsurfer, including secure board storage, changing rooms with hot showers, competitive racing with a great social scene, a wealth of experience to draw upon, and the added safety of sailing with others.

HSSC provides a chance to try stand up paddle boarding (SUP), which is very on trend right now. SUP helps to build your confidence and balance,as well as passing the time on the water in a relaxing way. The SUP group are a fun and sociable group to head out on the water with and amongst them are some qualified instructors that will be on hand to help you improve your paddling techniques and confidence.

Due to the exposed location where HSSC is positioned on the English Channel, the conditions are always changing and are sometime not suitable for paddle boarding. If this is the case, then The SUP Hub will take to the canal for a more relaxing cruise.

HSSC provides a chance to go sea kayaking for free, however your own equipment including kayak need to be provided as well as at least a basic level of skill (preferably intermediate level). It’ advised to go elsewhere if you are just looking to give it a go. It’s recommended try kayaking before you buy a kayak and join the clubs sea kayaking sessions.  There are plenty of commercial kayak clubs where you can hire a kayak and give it a go and even get some instruction.
