HSC has been established on since 1945. Its aim is to provide sailing facilities for the average working person keeping all costs to a minimum by self-help from members (run by volunteers).
HSC is located in Portsmouth harbour and provides berthing alongside the pontoon is available for up to 21 days. The club boasts 500 metres of landing pontoons making the club accessible at virtually all states of tide possible.

The clubhouse has a bar, galley, showers and toilets. HSC is an accredited RYA Training Centre and provides Dinghy racing events.
Membership requires an application form and visits to the club to provide and proposer and seconder. Joining fee start at £125 and fees for a single adult per year are £70.
