Spinnaker Sailing Club

Club Information

An inland water sports club, Spinnaker Sailing Club is primarily focused on dinghy sailing. The club is located inland and based at Blashford Lake, near Ringwood, Hampshire.

The lake is situated in the western part of the New Forest. A manmade lake, having initially been formed as a gravel pit, it later become a reservoir. It is now an area of great outstanding natural beauty, and part of the 189-hectare Blashford Lakes Nature Reserve. Despite being tucked away in a rural setting the club is easily accessible from the A31 and A338 from any direction.

Being inland provides a very safe and convenient environment for sailing, with no tides or commercial shipping to complicate the experience. The waters are relatively sheltered, allowing sailing to take place during strong winds, therefore the club sails all year round.

The clubhouse looks out onto the lake and is situated closely to the slipways, promoting maximum accessibility for teaching and lending a hand. Providing an ideal environment for learning.

The club is well known for its dinghy Team Racing, however it also has an extremely active Club Racing scene, as well as being a Royal Yachting Association recognised Training Centre. The club offers a wide variety of services, and has a range of boats for hire from stable beginner boats, to the faster and more advanced variety, including double-handed boats with spinnakers.

The club also caters for other water sports such as Kayaking and Stand up Paddle Boarding, The lack of waves provides a great environment for learning and the picturesque environment ends itself well to kayaking, equipment is available to hire for members. Windsurfing can also be enjoyed in the sheltered waters for both beginners and intermediate level.

Spinnaker Sailing Club offer a varied training programme for dinghies and powerboat development aimed at adults and children of all ages and abilities. The club is a recognised RYA centre offering certificated courses for every level through the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme, RYA National Sailing Scheme (for adults and older teenagers), and RYA Powerboat Scheme. All the instructors and coaches are trained to a high standard. The club also offers a varied programme of non-certificated training, that is designed to complement the RYA courses.
